Judy und Neal Ibbotson -- die Besitzer von Saint Clair Estate legten 1978 die ersten Weinberge an und erlangten schon bald internationale Anerkennung. Dies ist nicht zuletzt auch ein Verdienst des Kellermeisters Kim Crawford, der 1995 und 1996 in Neuseeland als „Winemaker of the Year" (Kellermeister des Jahres) ausgezeichnet wurde. Die Weinberge liegen in Neuseelands nördlicher Südhalbinsel und sind eher von kühlerem, mediterranem Klima beeinflusst. Bedingt durch dieses kühle Klima gedeihen hier insbesondere aromareiche Weißweinsorten und Rotweinsorten, die kein heißes Klima mögen. Dieser Pinot Noir reifte in Barriques und zeigt ein Aromen von reifen Kirschen, Pflaumen, Vanille, feinste Holznoten und vegetable Aromen.
