Trick Name: Straw pick up. (PLEASE, leave a comment)The Set up: Place a large drinking straw and an empty glass on a bar or table. Now, ask that someone pick up the glass or bottle using only the straw. The Rules: The straw will be in the glass and only one hand be used during the lift. Grasping of the glass with straw in between your fingers is not allowed. The Solution: Bend the straw in half just about the same length as the opening of the mouth of the glass. Now, stick the folded end into the glass and try to catch the lip of the glass with the end of the straw, and lift up.You can do this easier with a wine glass or even a long neck beer bottle,...Scuba
Marsha Thornton was a part of the wave of Nashville-based new traditionalist female singers in the late '80s. She recorded two MCA albums; Marsha Thornton (1990), produced by the legendary Owen Bradley, and Maybe the Moon Will Shine (1991).Her professional career ended there because Marsha didn't get enough songs from great writers to keep her going. This has happened to many country music greats over the years, including Wynn Stewart, Mel Street, Gary Stewart, Ed Bruce and Jerry Wallace. Like those artists, Marsha did very well with songs from seasoned writers. As an example Deep Water (Fred Rose), Jealous Heart (Jenny Lou Carson) and In the Palm of Your Hand (Buck Owens) all did very well for her.Furthermore, she faced fierce competition in a crowded pool of singers with just a handful of prolific writers. As a result and unfortunately for her, there was no compelling reason for the Nashville establishment to take another chance on her. However, they foolishly misjudged Marsha as she was better than any of the aspiring female singers around at that time.Since that time, Marsha has been busy with jingle and voiceover sessions. You may have heard her voice on commercials such as Kellogg's Corn Flakes, Dr. Pepper, and Fly Away. While Marsha's roots are very much Country and Bluegrass, she was also raised in and surrounded by, gospel music. Prototype of a pochette-sized instrument made from half of a whisky or wine bottle box. Think of it as a really skinny cigar box fiddle. They will sell for a really affordable price. We have no idea whether there is an historical basis for whisky bottle box fiddles.
