This week we look at a wine which uses a closure that might just signal the end of corks on high end wines... and the wine inside the bottle isn't half bad either! As well we look at a great Shiraz with lovely chocolate characters and a semillon/sauvignon blanc from a region known for producing great versions of the blend.
How inexpensive can a pinot noir be and still be a great drop? This week we manage to find one under $10 that has the big names talking it up as a great drop. As well we look at a top quality Clare riesling and a big, bold Barossa shiraz with style and substance. And we also announce the winners of our 'Best Dozen of 07' competition!
Wine week episode 2. Danny and Brad provide a few tips on what might be great wines to grab over the holidays, including a couple of great sparkling choices!
As the end of the financial year is upon us, we thought it timely to present a couple of wines that wont break the budget, but will help you celebrate in style. First is a sparkling white with quality well above it's price. Next we look at a great red blend from the Yarra Valley. Finally we check out an inexpensive shiraz that's both a good bet for cellaring and drinkable right now - what a combo!
This week we review a great red that comes from a vineyard run by one of the best known wine reviewers in Australia. As well we check out a classic example of a shiraz from the Heathcote region and a riesling that comes from one of the world's great red producers.
www.kidyounot.com.au - The 'Brown Kids' of Brown Brothers have made wines to bring people together and share stories. The cousins blended and tasted, until they had created their very own masterpieces. Two luscious wines - one white and one red but both irresistibly delicious.
This week we look at a wine which has been called by one reviewer 'the finest inexpensive shiraz I've ever tasted' and see if it lives up to the hype. As well we look at a riesling with a story behind the name. There's also another shiraz which used to be hard to find down under. We also pass on our condolences to those at Drayton Family Wines after the fatal explosion yesterday.
Weddings are the perfect time to open a few bottles of great wine, and when it's Brad's wedding then there's even more reason to get into some great wine! This week we look at a sparkling that many regard as Australia's finest, and is a regular at our celebrations. There's also a Margaret River riesling which will be served to the guests at the event this weekend. And we also look at a Coonawarra cabernet sauvignon which has really hit the mark with the 05 vintage. Cheers and congratulations to Brad & Tranda.
This week we look at a great Shiraz from Victoria's Grampians, a Cab Sav from what many are predicting will be a superb vintage from the Coonawarra and possibly Australia's finest Semillon.
This week we check a contender for Australia's best riesling that won't break the bank. We also check out a big Coonawarra red blend that is back in great form after a few disappointing vintages and a very young grenache/shiraz that is extremely drinkable right now.
This week we look at three wines that are definitely bargains in anyone's book. No surprises that our first wine is a riesling, but this one is in spare change territory. The next is a Coonawarra cabernet with 5 years bottle age yet is under $20. The last is a Heathcote shiraz that is a true bargain from a region where good cheap wine is hard to find.
This week two of our wines use grapes from various regions with great results, while the other uses a blend of red grapes to deliver a wine that is ideal for drinking now. The first wine is a sparkling white from a Victorian producer who is adding Tasmanian grapes to great effect. The other multi-regional offering is a Cabernet picking and choosing grapes from the best places in Oz for the variety resulting in a great wine at an even better price. Our other wine this week is from a smaller producer using both well known and less well known grape varieties.
Normally on wine week we stick to Australian wines. However this week in addition to a couple of Aussie beauts we get into the swing of the Tour de France by looking at a classic French wine which should be available around the world.
