The Set up: (PLEASE, leave a comment)You need to stick a toothpick into the cork in a wine bottle or the wax in a candle or sometimes I use one of the holes in a salt or pepper shaker, anything to get a toothpick standing up on its own, and sturdy. Now, explain that you're going to balance a toothpick on top of this fixed, standing toothpick. Sounds impossible, but now explain the toothpicks are going to meet point to point, tip to tip, at a 90 degree angle. Now I know what your thinking, "How is he gonna get a toothpick to balance off the tip of another toothpick, this would leave one toothpick just out there defying gravity". It gets better. Now, explain that you're also going to put some weight on the "gravity-defying" toothpick. Lets say the weight on 2 forks. Yes, we're going to put 2 forks on the toothpick that will be balancing off of the tip of the other toothpick.This is a great trick and can be done almost anywhere.This is a show stopper,... people will come from other tables,... waiter's will call out the chef,... people will pull out their camera's,...I promise,...(PLEASE, leave a comment)Scuba

This is a 2000ml yeast starter for a smoked porter I brewed. The yeast is White Labs British Ale yeast, WLP005. Starter was made with 1600ml of filtered water, 3/4 cup of light powdered DME, a pinch of yeast nutrient and boiled in the flask for 15 min. Cooled down to 70 degrees then the vial of yeast was added. An inline sanitary filter that filters down to .023 micron with a 99.99% efficiency (FIL90) from morebeer. com was used to plug the number 13 stopper. A teflon coated Magnetic Stir Bar (Y702) from morebeer was sanitized and dropped into the flask. I got the stirplate from a lab surplus site: labx. com.Yeast was stirred by the plate for 24 hours before using. Within about 2 hours of pitching yeast to the fermentation was already going crazy!
Close-up view as I launch the same unmodified 2-litre-bottle, again tethered to a house-brick with a length of braided nylon cord. I use this set-up for indoor demonstrations and wanted to see exactly what is happening in slow-motion. The movie revealed some important details. See how the bottle turns vertical apparently in reaction to the stopper being forced away to one side. This explained why I'd previously noticed that the cord needed to be shorter than expected in order to avoid hitting the ceiling. And I really didn't want to hit the ceiling during indoor demos, because the movie also showed that the bottle reaches a velocity of 100 miles per hour almost immediately after lift-off. Finally, notice how the lightweight, empty, but fast-moving bottle actually lifts that heavy brick clear off the ground...
