What are your thoughts on De Arenburg Laughing Magpie Voigner Shiraz. My personal favorite is the 2003, but the 2005 is nice also. Not a big fan of De Arenburgs Coppermine though... got a case of it, wish I hadn't spent the money now.

Great show. I have been watching your videos for a few weeks now and have really enjoyed them. Will you be heading to San Francisco anytime soon? Keep up the good work.

Barack Obama Shoots Pool (forgets about Bowling) 2008, Barack, billiards, bowling, Charleston, Danzig, navy, Obama, playing, pool, primary, Richard, shoots, South, table, Virginia, West
OK, so Barack Obama can't bowl. That much was established with his dismal performance back in Pennsylvania. But apparently he's not a bad pool player, as he proved today at Schultzie's, a dimly lit pool hall in South Charleston, W.V. Obama, according to a media pool report, arrived in rolled-up shirt sleeves. "We heard there were pool tables and chips and salsa," he said. He drank lemon lime soda from a straw and introduced the retired military officers with him: former Secretary of the Navy Richard Danzig; John Nathman, a former Navy four-star admiral; and Jim Smith, a former Air Force brigadier general."I can't vouch for their pool playing, but they're good guys," Obama said. "We can bowl," Nathman shot back, to laughs. Obama lamented the attention he knew would be paid to his skills. "There's pressure involved in everything I do," he said.Obama played Paul Scott, 24, who said he served two tours in Iraq. The senator led off with an even break that landed a solid in the corner pocket; he went on to sink two more in a row to cheers from the crowd. "That's a sign of a misspent youth," he said.Obama managed to sink more complicated bank shots, even if it wasn't always clear they were the shots he intended. (He was also the subject of a little charity: No one said anything when he accidentally sank the eight ball.) When Obama took a big lead, Scott said, "They told me to let you win." As he kept landing his shots, he said to a Newsweek photographer, "You didn't think I could play -- you thought it was going to be another bowling outing." Scott edged him on the final ball, but Obama took heart in his performance, saying, "I didn't embarrass myself." http://www.boston.com/news/pol tics/politicalintelligence/2008/05/he_cant_bowl_bu.html--------------------------------------------Barack Obama is going to get down if it kills him. Bleeding white voters...The lioness of Chappaqua is hot on the trail of the Chicago gazelle, eager to gnaw him to pieces, like a harrowing scene out of a George Stubbs painting. Proclaiming that the upcoming elections in Indiana and North Carolina would be "a game changer," Hillary and her posse pressed hard on their noble twin themes of emasculation and elitism. Cherry-bombing the word "pansy" into the discourse, Gov. Mike Easley of North Carolina said Hillary made "Rocky Balboa look like a pansy." Paul Gipson, president of a steelworkers local in Portage, Ind., hailed her "testicular fortitude," before ripping into "Gucci-wearing, latte-drinking, self-centered, egotistical people that have damaged our lifestyle." James Carville helpfully told Eleanor Clift of Newsweek that if Hillary gave Obama one of her vehicles of testicular fortitude, "they'd both have two." Then came the Big Dog [Bill Clinton], crazy like a fox, for the coup de graceless. Campaigning in Clarksburg, W. Va., he said that his scrappy wife can win working-class voters, as compared with Obama's Viognier-and-Volvo set. "The great divide in this country is not by race or even income, it's by those who think they are better than everyone else and think they should play by a different set of rules," the former president said. "In West Virginia and Arkansas, we know that when we see it." Oh, well, at least Bill didn't use the word uppity. And don't you love this paean to rules coming from a man so tethered and humbled by rules that he invented an entirely new sexual etiquette to suit his needs in the Oval Office?Full article: http://www.nytimes.com/2008/05 04/opinion/04dowd.html?_r=1&oref=slogin

Barboursville Vineyards Barboursville, Jefferson, Nebbiolo, Octagon, Virginia, wine
Located just northeast of Charlottesville, Barboursville Vineyards is the most honored winery in Virginia. Founded in 1976 by Gianni Zonin, the winery's Italian roots still resonate as grapes like Nebbiolo, Barbera, and Pinot Grigio are grown alongside Cabernet Franc, Viognier, and Merlot. Look for Octagon, a magnificent Bordeaux blend that pays homage to Virginia's first oenophile, Thomas Jefferson.

Wine Tasting 30: 2002 Talomas Shiraz Cabernet fm. California Beverage, Lam, Michael, Review, Tasting, Wine
Talomas and Kiraala were joint projects between Robert Mondavi of the USA and Rosemount of Australia before they scraped the project when Mondavi was sold to Constellation Brands in 2004. The remaining stocks were sold off quietly and I, liked the rest of the wine vultures in Vancouver, managed to get a case of the 2002 Syrah/Cab (as well as their Chardonnay/Viognier and Cab/Merlot). Good creamy blackcurrant cassis with cola were detected from the glass. Upon tasting, upfront and vibrant black currant, wild blackberry fruit emerged followed by spices and black pepper. The wine has good acidity and good backbone. This wine was reduced by the importer from $25 to $9 when the Talomas/Kiraala project was terminated. Definitely one of the biggest BARGAIN in my wine buying history! Drink it up in the next 2 to 3 years. (Rating 89-91 points) by Michael Lam of the Beverage Review.

Wine Tasting 55: 2003 Talomas Chardonnay/Viognier From Calif Beverage, Lam, Michael, Review, Tasting, Wine
This Talomas Chardonnay (83%) / Viognier (17%) came with a musky buttery nose mixed with very faint gasoline and the usual tropical fruit and pineapple suggesting the wine has gone through malolactic fermentation. The wine was surprisingly fresh, refreshing and crisp unlike many California chardonnays which are OTT (Over the top): Smokey, oaky, full body, with full blown malolatic buttery and off dry fruit -- I call it being suffocated by Dolly Parton's bosoms...Although this Char is not too complex as expected, I believe the Viognier has contributed the wine with much vibrancy and spiciness. The lifted but balanced acidity also means the wine is versatile with a large variety of food. The wine was reduced in BC from $21 to $7.99 in the summer of 2006 after Mondalvi was bought by Constellation brand in 2004. It's still available at private stores such as Central City of Surrey in BC at $12. What a mark up (!) but still fair in price I guess. Drink now like the way I quaffed it down after filming! (Rating 87-89) points by Michael Lam of the Beverage Review.

Kinkead Ridge Winery 2007 Mini-Movie - Vine Tucking & Tying Barrett, Bentley, cabernet, Kinkead, ohio, ripley, roussanne, syrah, vineyard, viognier, winery
Tucking and tying vines into our VSP (vertically shoot positioned) trellis is another laborious process. We use a tie gun. This process keeps the canopy clean and stops shoots from shading the fruit zone.

Viognier - Wine - Secondary Fermentation Cellars, home, Sun, Tortoise, viognier, wine, winemaking
The siphoning is finished and the wine is in the carboy. This will be the new home for the viognier for the next 10+ days. The airlock device on the top allows CO2 to escape but nothing in. The sludge in the bucket is yeast that helped convert the sugar to alcohol.
